About

Started by Matt Lynch in 2020, originally as MJL Enterprises, LLC, Leiper's Creek Timber Frames is the cultivation of a passion for beauty and excellence in design and building. Why Timber Framing?

Timber framing is an ancient building style boasting incredible strength and resilience with some frames lasting hundreds of years.

Because the joints fit together like a puzzle, properly engineered frames can withstand enormous forces, making them much stronger than conventional stick framing.

Timber Framing has also proven to be a timeless beauty. Exposed beams and joinery give character to an interior and tie the owners to their home in a way that modern framing fails to do.

About Matt

After college, Matt worked in the offshore maritime industry for several years, saving up to start his own timber products business and get back to the land.

In 2020, he purchased a small portable sawmill and began learning the intricacies of cutting all manner of lumber, from timbers to boards. During time at sea and at home, he studied timber framing. In November of 2021, he began a pavilion project for his family in Gettysburg, PA. Cutting down the trees and milling all the timbers proved to be a long process, but the frame was a tremendous success.

In April of 2022, he designed his first frame, a covered walking bridge over a beautiful hardscape.

When not in the shop, Matt spends time with his beautiful wife and daughter, working to restore a farm on Leiper's Creek.
